Coding for Every Kid, Everywhere

MiniCoders is an educational program that introduces foundational programming concepts to kids in underserved schools across Peru through playful, hands-on workshops. We start from scratch (literally!) to big dreams, empowering kids to create with code.

MiniCoders started with one simple idea:

A classroom in a rural Peruvian town should have the same opportunities to learn coding as a classroom anywhere in the world.

With no budget and a few tablets, we launched our first class in 2024. Today, we’re growing into a nonprofit initiative run by students who believe in access and equity.

The impact we have made in our community

Our programs and workshops were implemented across underserved communities living in the outskirts of Peru, specifically in the regions surrounding Huamanga, Ayacucho. We worked closely with Quechua-speaking communities where many students grew up speaking Quechua as their first language.

What Do We Offer?

Our workshops are designed to introduce children to computer science in a way that is accessible, engaging, and empowering.
We focus on learning by creating, encouraging students to actively build, experiment, and express their ideas through technology.

Intro to Coding Workshop (Scratch)

Here, students are introduced to the fundamentals of programming through visual, block-based coding using Scratch. They learn concepts such as sequencing, logic, loops, and conditionals.
By the end of each session, students can create their own games, animations, or even interactive stories!

Creative Problem Solving

Beyond coding, we emphasize the development of computational thinking (the ability to break down problems, recognize patterns, and think logically). Students engage in interactive challenges, collaborative activities and guided problem-solving exercises.
These experiences help build confidence and resilience, showing students that challenges can be approached step by step.

Robotics & Hands-On Learning

When resources allow, students are introduced to basic robotics using tools such as LEGO-based systems. These sessions combine physical building with programming, allowing students to:
– Connect code to real world scenarios.
– Experiment through trial and error.
– Work collaboratively in teams.
This hands-on approach makes abstract concepts more tangible and exciting!
